Most cops call themselves cops. I believe the word's original context was disrepectful, but, like many words, lost its "shock" value with extended use. Much like the word, "sucks." There was a day not all that long ago it might have earned me a backhand if I used it at the dinner table. Today, it's not unusual to hear it from an eight year old, and it's regularly used on television.

Re: Where’s my comment?

Hello Mr. Horowitz (or may I call you Snotty?):

It looks like some of your comments were hung up in our spam filter. I read a follow up story that said the fire was caused by a cigarette butt flicked onto mulch. I looked at the arieal photo and could not believe it. Later read that a gas line may have been involved NOT a cigarette but. I called the E-T editor's office and had to deal with a CALL SCREENER who said "Oh we just picked it up from the Salem News." No the E-T will not "correct" the story blah, blah. So the Trib printed a LIE and won't admit it. The story was also deleted from their site. A search of the STAFF WRITERS names turned up a lot but NOT the story on the Peabody fire? Newspapers publishers and editors wonder why people are not buying or reading newspapers in great numbers, which continue to declline, well it's because they LIE, manage the news, don't print facts and on and on it goes. I intend to inform the Trib that I'll be canceling my subscription after more than 40 years. I'd have sent this to Tayor Amerdings blog but ...

Re: Our first month of comments…

I find it very sad that The Salem News is now not only editorializing in the news sections, but it is also creating its own news as well.

I am referring to the numerous stories about Peabody Fire Fighter Brophy.

For the record, I am not in favor of his reinstatement nor am I pleased in the judgments found in his favor... but that is how our courts work at times.

What is disturbing is The Salem News coverage of this case. The News has had a consistent and constant attitude of disdain toward this man. From your chosen nickname of "the dozing dispatcher" to your incomplete listing of the facts in the case (omitting those in favor of Brophy) and even the republishing (on-line at least) of the private letter between Fire Chief Pasdon, Mayor Bonfanti and Brophy.

For heavens sake... those were personnel file materials... they should NOT have been available via the Freedom of Information Act... and the speed in which you received then, and published them, is quite unprecedented in my opinion.

All of this points toward serious BIAS against this rather unpopular character.

This all seems rather sad coming from The Salem News. I wish I could say that I had expected more from The News... but alas, I have grown to expect this type of anti-government, anti-union, pro-business attitude from your opinion pages... AND your news coverage.

Re: It’s time to speak up

How about adding a link to my site?

I'll add one to yours!

www.peabodypatriot.com

Re: Headed for Fenway?

UNH!
